Bunny Listens To The Music

Sunday, January 19, 2003
I woke up early, ready to go, but Chu-Wan wasn't ready yet, so I put Michelle in the stroller and headed out in search of breakfast. I decided I was going to the Cong You Bing place and order in Chinese; however, nothing was open. Either it was too early, or the Cong You Bing guy doesn't work on Sunday. Either way, I was without food prospects. I ended up eating a package of Zesty Garlic Doritos from 7-11 in the park.

Michelle fell asleep almost immediately, so I decided to push my luck and take her only a longer walk. We spent some time in the park, then headed north along Xinsheng road. I eventually turned down Renai road with nowhere in particular to go. I called Chu-Wan and she suggested we meet somewhere. I looked up and saw a sign pointing the way to the CKS Memorial, so I decided it was time to get my daily pictures of the lantern construction.

Michelle and I got there first, but she was unimpressed and slept through the whole thing. There appeared to be nothing new on the construction.
Michelle Unimpressed
When Chu-Wan arrived, we noticed that several news crews had gathered in the area. We checked with them and learned that a protest was scheduled for later that morning. We high-tailed it out as quickly as possible, heading for the Gongkuan area so that Chu-Wan could purchase contact lenses. We also planned to eat lunch there, but nothing was open before 11:00AM. We finally managed to get soom bread from a bakery, but nothing else.

With nothing else to buy and nothing open we headed back home.

Jan 19 Lantern ProgressWe passed a bizarrely named place called Bunny Listens To The Music which appears to be some form of coffee house. The name was interesting, but somehow left me flat. if it is a coffee house, something more hip and dangerous seems in order, perhaps: Bunny Runs With Scissors or Bunny Sleeps With The Fishes. After I'd left, I wished I had taken pictures of their sign - I doubt I'll ever find the place again.

We got home just in time to watch a Taiwanese puppet program, like the ones I'd seen at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi. The shows are a continuing serial, so I expected it to be 30 minutes long but it turned out to be 2 hours long! All during the show they advertised the release of the DVDs, but a search of their web page indicated that their page would be unavailable for several more days. The program itself was very convoluted and soap-opera like, with lots of blood and gore being splashed about. Despite being 2-hours long, it was just one installment in a longer series.

For dinner, we went across the street to a place called Sub Zone that used to be a Subway, but still serves sub sandwiches. iIt wasn't bad, but they had some odd combinations. I had a typical Italian sub, but this one included roast beef, too.

Tomorrow we go to Hualien and Taroko National Park, and we needed to pack, but Michelle and I fell asleep early before we got ready.
